PókeBall Lantern Making

•••••••
Going with the recent craze of Pókemon, no thanks to Pókemon Go, aka Pogo, we decided to have a weekend home activity with the same theme
•••••••
Since the kids' pre-school would also be celebrating "Mid Autumn Festival", a harvest festival, traditionally celebrated by the Chinese. It usually happens on the night of a full moon, between Sep - early Oct
•••••••
There are some stories behind the festival, but basically, what we do during the occasion includes lighting up lanterns & litting up the evening with beautiful candle lights illuminating from the colourful paper lanterns. We also eat moon cakes, but that's a topic for another post.
•••••••
So, having to make a lantern, I tot, "Why not a PokéBall?"
•••••••
Here's what we'll need:
- Plain White Lantern
- Red & Black paint (Great/Ultra Balls would take more effort)
- Paint Brushes
- Stick to hold the lantern (if it doesn't come tgt with the lantern)
- Pencil to mark the outlines of the different parts of the PokéBall
•••••••
Found a plain white lantern from a party decoration shop that sells at SGD8.90
•••••••
•••••••
Elly excited to get started!
•••••••
[Stage 1] Requirements: Lantern & Pencil
•••••••
We did some simple dividing of the lantern to 4 parts:
1) Middle portion - Black
2) Upper half of sphere (to be painted red)
3) Lower half of sphere (no painting required)
4) Circle on the black portion where the PokéBalls button is found
•••••••
Googling a nice pic of the PokéBall on your phone to estimate the proportion of each section would be recommended
•••••••
•••••••
[Step 2] Requirements: Paint Brush & Red Paint
•••••••
Before painting starts, we hung the lantern up, & did our paintings "in the air". Doing so on a table seems rather challenging to me.
•••••••
•••••••
Painting the top half of the lantern red proved to be quite simple & fun for Elly... I've to constantly remind her to be careful while she "reloaded" her brush with paint. The path from the palette back to the red top half seems dangerous to me! & true enough, there was one instance where the paintbrush brushed across the white bottom half to leave a faint red marking... Good thing it wasn't too bad & some touching up could b done easily
•••••••
[Part 3] Requirements: Paint Brush & Black Paint
•••••••
•••••••
We are almost done at this stage. The challenging part would be the circle, or button portion of the PokéBall. Using the tip of the brush, I decided to do it myself, & leave the painting of the black belt to Elly
•••••••
•••••••
Tada! & we are done!
•••••••
Our very own PokéBall Lantern!
•••••••
•••••••
To add on a personal touch to it, we added a name tag
•••••••
•••••••
[Part 4] Additional step... Requirements: Thick black paper & Silver/Colored Markers
•••••••
Basically, it's cutting out an outline of Pikachu, making it look like a silhouette of the famous Pokémon, & writing your name on it.
•••••••
There we have it! All done

Elly turns 6!

~~~~~~~
Time flies!
~~~~~~~
My lil' darling has grown up to a fine lil' lady
~~~~~~~
Thinking about what to post about her led me to reminiscing the years watching her grow up
~~~~~~~
So this post really is just about a father's obsession over his daughter 😂 Lol
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Her arrival was the beginning of all the triggering of soft spots in my heart, the protective dad was also born together with her. Ha ha
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
One of my fondest memory of Elly's when she first burst out laughing/chuckling. Remember vividly how her expression was like then =)
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Elly's 1yo Party!
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
CNY took a little longer to prepare when Serena had to doll up our lil, gal
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
I never fail to get mesmerize by her =)
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Even when angry, she's super cute!
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~
Our 1st Australia trip was filled with many fun moments cuz of her... Our personal memories of her adorable shout of "Aus-tralia", to her "eating popcorn chicken" even after dozing off, to the strawberry plucking, & many more are memories locked up in our hearts... ... Even though the stupid computer went on to lose its own memory shortly after we transferred all the pics over [tears], & the stupid owners didn't back it up [sad]
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Imitating a tiger's roar & asking to go see the white tiger
~~~~~~~
Elly is probably the fatest learner out of the 3, picking up things like walking, talking, etc fast.
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
This is the kids' "cute cute" pose
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
In the blink of an eye, she's grown older by another year!
~~~~~~~
Then... The Hello Kitty craze kicked in for about a year! Lol
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
She was so star-struck by the princess HK mascot that "touched her face", that she kept touching the same spot of her cheek saying "HK touched me/my face"
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Her cheeky side! Posing as her Malay teacher - Ms Rama
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Her fav seat
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
As you can see, even her birthday celebs are HK-infected!
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Injections were painful but fun too...
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Simple joys
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Elly's cool...
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Elly's elegant...
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Elly's sporty...
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Elly's fun-loving...
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
& she's crazy too! Lol
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Her promotion to a 姐姐 came 4 years later
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Initially, she couldn't really click into her new role although she tried really hard, loving & doting on Sophie. However, being the livewire that she is, her super hugs & energy was a little too much for an infant or 1yo. However, as Sophie grew older, they've now become play-buddies & does lotsa things together as sisters. E teaches S stuff like counting numbers, Chinese numerals, dancing, drawing etc.
~~~~~~~
I'm proud of you Elly =)
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Our darling =)
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
❤️ Love these pics of my beauties ❤️
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Attending her Reverances became our annual highlights
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
We also love her drawings!
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Looking back at her years in Kindergarden, Dec 2015's year end performance was one that stood out when she danced & rocked the place! Bravo to a performance that got us all cheering & clapping for her
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
As she grew older, her love for the beach & swimming grew. We celebrated her 5yo at Sentosa, along the beach, where she could play with the sand, sea & sea shells with the other kids
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Mermaid craze strikes!
~~~~~~~
This year, as Serena blogged, we decided to bring her to Maldives for her pre-Primary 1 trip + Birthday Celebration
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
There, she enjoyed her fav activity of picking sea shells...
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
& her new found love+hobby, snorkeling!
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
I'm very glad that we got to spend some quality time with Elly, the "middle child" of our tiny family. It was time well spent
~~~~~~~
When we were back, she celebrated with her friends from ChildFirst at Kallang Ice World
~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Her loots from the party
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Yes, time flies. It really does. But I'm enjoying every moment watching her grow up. Looking forward to the many more years ahead too.
